Terms of Service

Last updated: March 27, 2026

1. Introduction

StreamReader ("we", "our", "the Service") is operated by Hovestadt Marketing. By accessing or using StreamReader at streamreader.io, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Service Description

StreamReader is a web-based speed reading application that uses Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) to display text from user-uploaded documents. The Service includes document upload, text extraction, speed reading, annotation tools, and a library of public domain books from Project Gutenberg.

3. User Accounts

You may create an account using email/password or Google OAuth. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must provide accurate information and promptly update it if it changes.

4. User Responsibility for Content

You are solely responsible for any content you upload, import, or process using StreamReader. By uploading content, you represent and warrant that:

Uploading copyrighted material without authorization is a violation of these Terms and may result in account termination.

5. Intellectual Property

You retain all ownership rights to content you upload. We do not claim ownership of your documents, highlights, or annotations. We are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to store and process your content solely to provide the Service.

StreamReader's software, design, branding, and original content are our intellectual property and may not be copied, modified, or distributed without permission.

6. Content Storage

Extracted text from your documents may be stored on our servers to enable features such as cloud sync and cross-device access. Original files are processed client-side and are not uploaded to our servers unless explicitly stated. We implement encryption and access controls to protect stored content.

7. Project Gutenberg Content

Books available through the Browse feature are sourced from Project Gutenberg and are in the public domain. StreamReader is not affiliated with Project Gutenberg. These books are provided as-is without warranty.

8. Annotations & Export

Exported annotations contain brief excerpts of text (capped at approximately 50 words per highlight) for personal reference and commentary purposes only, consistent with fair use / fair dealing principles. Exports are intended exclusively for personal, non-commercial use. You agree not to use the export feature to reproduce substantial portions of copyrighted works or to redistribute exported annotations commercially.

9. Subscription & Payment

StreamReader offers a free tier and a paid Pro subscription. Payment is processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges at the stated price. You may cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

For EU consumers: under the EU Consumer Rights Directive, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services. By subscribing and accessing Pro features immediately, you explicitly consent to the immediate provision of the service and acknowledge that you waive your right of withdrawal once the service has been fully provided.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

11. Content Moderation & Copyright Reports

We comply with the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). If you believe content hosted on our Service infringes your copyright or other rights, contact us at:

Copyright notices: data@hovestadtmarketing.com

We will process reports in a timely manner and remove infringing content where appropriate. Repeat infringers may have their accounts terminated.

12. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your stored data will be deleted within 30 days unless we are required by law to retain it. You may export your data before termination.

13. Limitation of Liability

StreamReader is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy of text extraction, reading speed calculations, or uninterrupted service. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

14. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes at least 30 days before they take effect via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts in the Netherlands.
